Imagine being able to witness 1,200+ competitive female athletes on 68+ teams from 15 US States and Canadian provinces in 8 brackets playing on 4 courts for 3 days in 1 location! The National Title IX Conference and Classic does just that by showcasing high school girl’s basketball teams that are state or national champions and have a team GPA of 3.0 or better. These teams are invited to be guests of The Sankofa Project in the Nation's Capitol for five exciting days as they encourage and motivate players, their parents, and coaches.

These five days include the "Playing with a Purpose" Title IX Conference with workshops to inspire, educate and advise young women about pursuing their dreams, and using high school sports as a vehicle for a possible "full ride" to college thru a NCAA scholarship.

Students and coaches both participate in the conference and learn more about Title IX in an effort to become strong self-advocates and prepare for post- secondary success.

This highly competitive basketball tournament attracts a wide range of college scouts and leads to college scholarships for promising players who meet NCAA academic standards.

 This event is FREE to participating students.  Every effort is made to keep costs down to ensure financial means is not a barrier to participation.  We need your financial support to underwrite food and beverage costs for all teams, and hotel costs for visiting teams.

The Sankofa Project is a 501(c)3 that works to improve Title IX compliance in athletics. Our mission is to raise the bar of post high school expectation for female students by introducing them to rewarding career paths in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math and inspiring them to use NCAA scholarships to pay for the college degree they may need.

Please help us:

  • Increase student interest in non-traditional careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math;

  • Inform students and parents of the purpose and intent of Title IX and the protections and benefits it provides to males and females in educational institutions that receive federal funds; and

  • Inspire more female scholar-athletes to Play With a Purpose - A College Scholarship!

Please join our campaign to Raise the Bar of Expectation for Female Scholar-Athletes with your generous, tax-deductible donation today!
